Pool Lighting & Water Features

Your Pool Looks Amazing During the Day. What About at Night?

Broward County's Pool Feature Experts: Lighting and Water Elements That Transform Everything

Picture this: it’s Friday evening, friends are over, and your pool is just sitting there in the dark. Maybe you’ve got one old pool light that makes the water look vaguely greenish. No ambiance. No wow factor. Meanwhile, you see pools on Instagram with gorgeous lighting, bubbling water features, and that resort vibe you wish yours had. Your pool has so much potential; it just needs the right touches to shine.

Poolside Renos adds lighting and water features to pools across Broward County that completely change how you experience your backyard. LED color-changing lights that set the mood. Bubblers on sun shelves that add movement and sound. Deck jets that create elegant arcs of water. Sheer descents that turn your pool into a showpiece. We’ve been adding features to pools since 1998, so we know what works, what’s worth the investment, and how to install everything properly so it actually functions the way it’s supposed to.

One family-owned team that genuinely loves creating backyard spaces people want to spend time in.

When Pool Features Go Wrong (And Why You're Disappointed with the Results)

Adding features to a pool sounds straightforward until contractors mess it up. Poor lighting placement creates shadows and dark spots instead of even illumination. Water features that don’t have enough flow look sad and underwhelming. Cheap LED lights fail within a year. Equipment that’s not properly integrated with your pool system causes problems you didn’t have before. Then there’s the design side, features that don’t fit your pool’s style, lighting that’s too harsh or too dim, or installations that look tacked-on rather than integrated.

Three Ways Bad Contractors Ruin Pool Feature Projects

  1. Poor Design Planning Means Disappointing Results

Features need to be planned thoughtfully. Where should the lights go for the best effect? How many do you need? Where should bubblers be placed for visual impact? What height should deck jets shoot for the right arc? Contractors who don’t understand design just put things where it’s easiest, not where it looks best. You end up with features that technically work but don’t deliver the visual impact you were hoping for.

  1. Cheap Equipment That Fails Fast

Not all LED lights, pumps, or feature components are created equal. Budget equipment fails quickly, especially in pool environments with chemicals and constant exposure. Colors fade, seals leak, electronics stop working. Contractors who prioritize low bids over quality use cheap components to boost their margins, and you’re stuck replacing everything way too soon. Quality equipment costs more upfront but lasts 10-15+ years instead of failing in 2-3.

  1. Improper Integration with Pool Systems

Water features need proper plumbing, adequate pump capacity, and correct electrical integration. Lights need transformers sized correctly and wired safely. Contractors who don’t understand pool systems create problems, inadequate flow, equipment that runs constantly, electrical issues, or features that work initially but cause cascading problems with your pool system. Proper integration requires understanding how everything works together, not just bolting on new stuff.

Here’s what makes features tricky:

They’re the fun part of pool ownership, the elements that turn a basic pool into something special. But they only work if they’re done right. Poorly executed features are worse than no features at all because you’ve spent money and still don’t have the ambiance and enjoyment you wanted. The difference between disappointing features and amazing features usually comes down to design sense, quality equipment, and proper installation.

At Poolside Renos, we’ve added features to thousands of pools across Broward County. We understand lighting design, water feature hydraulics, and how to integrate new elements with existing systems. Your features will look stunning, perform reliably, and deliver the experience you’re actually paying for because we sweat the details that matter.

Tired of pools that have zero personality?

How We Add Features That Actually Deliver the Wow Factor

Step 1: Free Consultation & Feature Planning

We visit your property, look at your pool, and talk about what you’re envisioning. Want color-changing lights throughout? Bubblers on the sun shelf? Deck jets creating water arcs? A sheer descent waterfall? We discuss options, show you examples, and give honest feedback about what makes sense for your pool size, budget, and how you use the space. This is your backyard; features should match your style and enhance how you enjoy it.

Step 2: Design Planning & Equipment Selection

We create a feature plan that shows placement, quantities, and specifications. Where do lights go for the best coverage? How many bubblers create the right effect? Where should deck jets aim for elegant arcs? We select quality equipment that performs reliably and looks great. You understand exactly what you’re getting before any work starts, no vague promises that turn into disappointment.

Step 3: Detailed Written Estimate

You get a comprehensive proposal covering all equipment, installation labor, electrical work, plumbing, and any necessary system upgrades. Everything’s itemized clearly. If your existing pump can’t handle additional features, we tell you upfront and include necessary upgrades in the estimate. No surprises, no hidden costs discovered halfway through.

Step 4: Scheduling & Project Coordination

We schedule your feature installation with realistic timelines. Most feature additions take 3-7 days, depending on complexity and whether we’re coordinating with other work like resurfacing. We work efficiently to minimize disruption and keep your pool usable when possible. For major feature additions requiring equipment upgrades, we plan accordingly.

Step 5: Professional Installation

Our licensed crews handle all aspects, core drilling for lights and features, running new plumbing lines, proper electrical work with appropriate transformers, and integration with your pool system. We work carefully because features require precision. Deck jets aimed wrong look awkward. Lights placed poorly create shadows. Water features with inadequate flow disappoint. We got it right the first time.

Step 6: System Integration & Testing

We integrate new features with your existing pool system, ensuring pumps, filters, and electrical can handle the additions. We test everything thoroughly, light colors and brightness, water feature flow and coverage, all controls and automation. If something doesn’t look or perform right, we adjust until it does. We don’t call it done until it works beautifully.

Step 7: Feature Demonstration & Training

We show you how to operate everything, changing light colors, adjusting feature timers, and understanding controls. If you have automation, we program your preferences. We make sure you’re comfortable using your new features and understand basic troubleshooting. These are meant to be enjoyed, not confusing.

Step 8: Final Walkthrough & Enjoyment

We walk everything with you, answer questions, and make sure you’re thrilled with the results. We want you excited to use your pool, to show people your new features, to actually spend time enjoying what you’ve invested in. That’s the whole point of features: they should make you love your pool more.

Why Broward County Homeowners Trust Us with Pool Features

We Understand Design, Not Just Installation

Features are about creating experiences and ambiance. We understand lighting design, how many lights you need, where they should go, and what colors work for different moods. We know water feature design placement, flow rates, and visual impact. This design sense is what separates stunning features from ones that technically work but don’t deliver the wow factor you’re paying for.

Family-Owned Since 1998

We’re local owners who’ve been part of this community for over 25 years. We genuinely love creating beautiful outdoor spaces because we see how much joy they bring people. This isn’t just work to us, it’s helping families create backyards they’re excited to use. That personal investment shows in the quality of our work and the care we take with every project.

Quality Equipment We Trust

We use LED lights, pumps, and components from manufacturers with proven track records. We’ve installed thousands of features over 25+ years, so we know what lasts and what fails. You’re investing in features that should perform beautifully for 10-15+ years, we make sure the equipment we install actually delivers on that expectation.

Proper System Integration

Adding features isn’t just about bolting on new stuff; it’s about integrating with your existing pool system properly. We ensure your pump can handle additional flow demands. We size electrical correctly. We account for how new features affect your existing equipment. Professional integration prevents problems and ensures everything works harmoniously.

We Focus on Creating Experiences

We work primarily with homeowners in Weston, Boca Raton, Parkland and Coral Springs who want backyards they actually enjoy using, not just backyards that exist. Features turn pools from functional to magical. We’re not just adding equipment, we’re creating ambiance, atmosphere, and experiences worth investing in.

Licensed, Insured, Here for You

Full licensing, comprehensive insurance, and we’re not disappearing after installation. We’ve been here 25+ years, and we’ll be here 25+ more. When you have questions about your features or need service down the road, we’re still here answering the phone. That ongoing support matters when you’re adding elements that should last 10-15+ years.

Questions? We've Got Answers

What lighting options do you recommend?

LED color-changing lights are our top recommendation; they're energy-efficient, last 10-15+ years, offer unlimited color options, and can be controlled via smartphone apps. You can set different colors for different moods, program color transitions, and control everything easily. We typically recommend 2-3 lights for small pools, 3-5 for medium pools, and 5+ for large pools, depending on shape and desired effect.

How much do LED pool lights cost?

LED light installation typically runs $800-$1,500 per light, including the fixture, transformer, wiring, and labor. Yes, it's more than old incandescent lights, but LEDs last 10x longer, use 75% less energy, offer color-changing capabilities, and don't require draining your pool to replace bulbs. The upfront cost is higher, but the long-term value is significantly better.

What are the most popular water features?

Bubblers on sun shelves are hugely popular; they add movement, sound, and visual interest. Deck jets create elegant water arcs that catch light beautifully. Sheer descents produce sheet waterfalls that turn pools into showpieces. Scuppers add architectural interest. Each feature creates different effects; we help you choose based on your pool layout, budget, and desired ambiance.

Can you add features to existing pools?

Absolutely. Most of our feature installations are additions to existing pools. We core drill for new lights, run plumbing for water features, and integrate everything with your existing system. The key is planning properly to ensure your current pump and electrical system can handle the additions. If upgrades are needed, we include them in the estimate upfront.

Do water features increase water bills significantly?

Not really. Most water features recirculate pool water; they're not constantly adding new water. Your pump runs a bit more to power the features, which increases electricity slightly, but it's typically $10-30 per month, depending on how much you run them. The energy cost is minimal compared to the enjoyment they provide.

How long do LED lights last?

Quality LED pool lights typically last 30,000-50,000 hours, that is 10-15+ years of normal use. Even better, when they eventually do need replacing, most modern LED fixtures let you replace just the LED assembly without draining the pool. Old incandescent lights lasted 1-2 years and required draining the pool to replace them. LEDs are a massive improvement.

Can I control features from my phone?

Yes. Modern pool automation systems let you control lights, water features, heating, and more from smartphone apps. You can change light colors, turn features on/off, adjust schedules, and monitor everything remotely. If you don't have automation currently, we can add it when installing features. It's worth the investment for the convenience.

Ready to Actually Enjoy Your Pool at Night?

Right now, your pool shuts down when the sun goes down. It’s just dark water sitting there, unused and uninviting. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The right lighting and features transform your pool into an evening destination, somewhere you want to be, somewhere that makes you smile every time you look at it. Imagine sitting outside on a Friday night with the pool lit up, bubblers running, and thinking, “yeah, this was worth it.”

We understand design, use quality equipment, and integrate features properly so they perform beautifully for years.
